Here in Colorado there is a lot to love about September. It’s the month when temperatures start to get a little cooler, when the earliest leaves start to turn, when everything starts to feel like Autumn instead of Summer.
In the jewelry-making world, there are a lot of things to love about September as well, not least the wonderful birthstone we get to use for this month!
September’s birthstone is the magnificent Sapphire!
Sapphires come in all colors except red (read why in last year’s article celebrating Sapphires), but the most classic and celebrated color of Sapphires are lovely Blue Sapphires.
All the Sapphires I use in my handmade jewelry are Blue Sapphires. In their natural stone form, Sapphires still come in a range of incredible blue hues, though they tend to be more opaque than gem-quality stones used in other jewelry.
Of course, natural stone Sapphire jewelry is just as beautiful as faceted gem jewelry, just in a different way.
