No, Rhyolite is not a Jasper. Rhyolite looks very similar to Jaspers, and the green variety of Rhyolite is often called Rainforest Jasper. Rhyolite forms when molten rock (magma) erupts from a volcano and cools rapidly on the surface. Jaspers are formed a different way - they are a type of Chalcedony formed from deposits of microscopic silica crystals. I create handmade artisan jewelry with the green variety of Rhyolite.
