About Snowflake Obsidian
Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass formed in swiftly cooling lava that has a high silica content. Snowflake obsidian (also called "flowering obsidian") gets its name and patterns from cristobalite (a type of quartz) inclusions formed in the obsidian as it devitrifies.
About Argentium Sterling Silver
Argentium® – The Finest Silver - is a purer version of Sterling Silver that is also highly tarnish resistant. Standard "Sterling Silver" is an alloy composed of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. This is why you may also see "925 Sterling Silver" for items that are Sterling Silver.
Argentium® is made with 93.5% silver and 6.5% other metals, including germanium and copper, which gives Argentium® additional beneficial properties for jewelry makers. For my jewelry, the biggest benefit of using Argentium® instead of regular Sterling Silver is that it is anti-tarnish. It is also not plated, it is 100% Argentium® Sterling Silver - so there is no worry about plating rubbing off. Argentium® Sterling Silver jewelry is always hypoallergenic.
In addition to these benefits, Argentium® is responsibly manufactured, ethically sourced, and certified to be made with 100% recycled silver.
NOTE: Argentium® Silver jewelry should never be cleaned using silver "dip" cleaners. Please either wipe with a soft cloth or use only water and mild dish soap if you need to clean your Argentium® Sterling Silver jewelry.
I have many Argentium® products - and if you see something I've made with standard Sterling Silver, it's highly likely I can make it for you using Argentium® if you would like. Just contact me to ask!
